Day Trip
After riding the bus from Pereira, you'll start with a short walking tour of the town, then visit a primary school to spend time with a group of students (if available). Eat a traditional lunch with a local family in their home, and continue to one of the town's finest coffee shops to enjoy a cup of premium locally grown coffee. Finish the day sampling a few exotic fruits before riding the bus back to Pereira. Approximate duration: 8 hours.
Multiple Days
Extend your stay for 2, 3 or 4 days for the chance to enjoy a handful of other unique experiences.
Sample itineraries:
2 Days: After a night in a simple hotel, take a short drive to the neighboring town of Mistrató for a walk through its scenic town square. For lunch, we head back to the Umbría Valley for a special gastronomic experience at a local restaurant featuring Colombian-Thai fusion (Thursday to Monday only). Continue to the town of Guática before catching a bus back to Pereira (or returning to Belén for a third day!).
3 Days: In the morning, drive to Belalcázar for the chance to see the largest statue of Christ in South America and amazing views of the Coffee Region. In the afternoon, head to Mirador San Antonio near La Celia for a delicious traditional lunch and an unforgettable coffee experience (closed Tuesdays and Thursdays).
4 Days: Get a good workout with a difficult but rewarding guided hike down a primitive trail near town. See waterfalls, spot exotic birds, and enjoy the lush green landscape that surrounds the town. The hike can last up to 6 hours and includes a box lunch.
