One of Colombia's most beautiful towns is Monguí, located in the department of Boyacá. With its wide open plaza and beautiful colonial buildings, it's a great town to visit and explore. The best part - it's off the tourist trail.
The centerpiece of the town is the gorgeous colonial church, Nuestra Señora de Monguí. It was built between 1694 and 1760 and is considered an architectural landmark.
Once you finish admiring the beautiful plaza, you can explore the rest of town. It isn't very big so it doesn't take very long to walk through the streets. You'll find several colonial buildings decorated with green and red.
At one end of town is Puente Real de Calicanto. This lovely stone bridge was built by indigenous people under the Spaniards between 1603 and 1715.
While Monguí is typically a coal mining town, what really sets it apart is its soccer ball manufacturing industry. Locals have producing the balls for decades and several shops are dedicated to selling only soccer balls.
